If I’ve learned anything from watching this “bailout” mess, it’s that politics outweighs the public good. Both Obama and McCain showed support for the bailout right up until it became obvious the public wasn’t going to be behind it. At that point, both men denounced it. Does either candidate have a set?
Congress, even in opposition, will probably pass this thing. Why? Because the fear of being seen as not doing anything outweighs any desire to go with your gut and do what’s right. This sentiment, to paraphrase Ron Paul, is probably going to turn a year-long severe recession in to an all-out depression.
If it wasn’t for the fact that he’s a card-carrying member of the ACLU, I’d consider voting for Bob Barr (does a Libertarian joining the ACLU even make sense?). I disagree with the general isolationist policy of Libertarianism, but they have the best economic policy. Let’s face it, the quickest way to lose the war on terror is for our economy to collapse. It takes a lot of money to fund a war.
Sarah Palin had me jazzed to vote McCain, but she’s become “Queen Talking-Point” as of late. I don’t want to hear a bunch of buzzwords, I want to know that you have a plan!
What to do, what to do…
