Following reports that Iranian leader’s health is failing, local website quotes Ahmadinejad associates as saying he may not take part in 2009 presidential elections due to exhaustion
Considering that the current Ayatollah is also an Israel hater, this won’t exactly fix anything regarding Israeli-Iranian relations. All that really happens is Iran loses a big mouth-piece, the world assumes everything is fine as a result, and Israel stands alone against Iran and its proxies.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took thinly veiled jabs at the United States, Israel, the United Nations and European powers here as he defended his country’s ambitions to harness and use nuclear power in an address before nearly 200 world leaders.
He said the same stuff he’s been saying; Israel and the U.S. are bad, Iran can have nukes, Allah is on his side. Nothing new here, but you can still check out the clip above if you’re interested.

Mahmoud "Little Hitler" Ahmadinejad Grants Interviews Before U.N. Speech
Iran’s president blamed U.S. military interventions around the world in part for the collapse of global financial markets and said the campaign against his country’s nuclear program was solely due to the Bush administration “and a couple of their European friends.”
The collapse of the global market has nothing to do with military interventions; it has to do with the greed of giving out sub-prime mortgages, the excessive use of credit, and the fact that New York is the economic center of the world (that may change soon, unfortunately).
The part of this article that bugs me the most comes from his interview with NPR. In it, he claims:
…he does not want confrontation with the United States. He said he wants diplomatic relations to develop between the two countries and was willing, for example, to cooperate on upholding security in Iraq.
I don’t know about anyone else, but to me this seems like a ploy to get those who don’t want conflict with Iran worked up just long enough for him to get nuclear arms built. I fully expect he’ll nuke Tel Aviv before anyone takes him seriously.
Ahmadinejad Threatens Israel Yet Again
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at Israel on Thursday, saying the Jewish state would not survive, even if it gave up land for a Palestinian state. He also dismissed allegations that his country is trying to make nuclear arms.
This is a veiled enough threat that he’ll get away with it, but considering everything else he’s said, I still see a threat here.
Then, if you add this to the mix:
Iran can not become reconciled with the Israeli people, Ali Khamenei, supreme religious leader of Iran said. During Friday prayers, Khamenei sharply criticized statement by the assistant to the Iranian President Isfandiyar Rahim Meshai on friendship between Iranian and Israeli people. “The statement about Iranian and Israeli peoples being friends is nonsense”.
…and consider that the U.S. will probably be too wrapped up in its own economic woes to back Israel up, it becomes obvious that some interesting times are just over the horizon.
