By Josh Meyer

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia remains the world’s leading source of money for Al Qaeda and other extremist networks and has failed to take key steps requested by U.S. officials to stem the flow, the Bush administration’s top financial counter-terrorism official said Tuesday.

There’s a school of thought that says Saudi Arabia is one of the best starting places for reform in the Middle East, so I’m not up for abandoning them just yet. Iranian Paper: Jordan, Saudi Arabia Spying For Israel
By MEMRI

In an editorial, the Iranian daily Jomhouri-e Eslami attacked the “disgraceful passivity” of the Arabs in the face of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.

The paper wrote that there are signs that “some Arab regimes — headed by Saudi Arabia and Jordan — are spying for Israel and helping it topple Hamas and Islamic Jihad.”

Saudi gang rape sentence 'unjust'

November 17, 2007 by Justin View Comments

A lawyer for a gang-rape victim in Saudi Arabia who was sentenced to 200 lashes and six-months in jail says the punishment contravenes Islamic law.

Unfortunately, based on what I’ve read, her lawyer is wrong. Not that I fancy myself an expert on Islam by any stretch of the imagination.

Saudi Asks Israel to Abandon Barrier as a Gesture to Arabs

September 27, 2007 by Justin View Comments

Israel should stop work on a security barrier in and along the West Bank and halt settlement activity there as a good-will gesture to assure Arab states that it is serious about comprehensive peace talks, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said yesterday.

The minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, stopped short of making his demand a condition for Arab attendance at a planned Middle East peace conference. And he said that in recent days, he had become encouraged about the prospects for the conference, which the United States is to sponsor in November. But he would not promise that Saudi Arabia would attend, a major Israeli objective.

Pretty good opinion piece, and one I’d agree with.
