December 14, 2008 by Justin View Comments

From The Jerusalem Post:

The chief US delegate to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned Syria on Saturday that it had until March to begin showing signs of cooperation over its nuclear plan or the country would face punishment.

Israel To EU: Syria? Seriously?

December 3, 2008 by Justin View Comments

With Syria and the European Union set to initial an association agreement formalizing ties on December 14, Israel is calling on the EU not to rush headlong into normalizing relations with an un-reformed Damascus.

Full Article

Basically, the EU is giving Syria a “job well done” pat on the back for a handful of positive decisions.  However, Syria is still pretty much a terrorist state, and this only sends the message that that doesn’t have to change.  One has to wonder if the rise in European antisemitism played into this at all.

Bush: Israel Giving Away The Golan Heights For Nothing

November 30, 2008 by Justin View Comments

Probably the most promising thing Dubya has said involving Israel in a long time.

U.S. President George Bush believes that Israel is offering Syria the Golan Heights without getting anything in exchange, according to sources briefed on his White House meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert last week.

No Syrian Love For Sarah Palin

October 3, 2008 by Justin View Comments

A Syrian news service, jumped on Sarah Palin’s declaration about moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem to declare (in horror) that McCain would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel. Of course, the United States does recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel but President after President has come up with excuses for not moving our Embassy to Jerusalem.

Always focusing on the negative…

In all seriousness, moving the embassy to Jerusalem isn’t as big a deal as it’s made out to be.  It’s the political equivalent of the U.S. going to watch Israel play in a softball game; it shows support, but doesn’t display any actual involvement.

My bigger concern was Sarah jumping on the two-state bandwagon.  Of course, that’s probably a point the Syrians supported.

U.N. Confirms: Hizbullah Importing Weapons From Syria
By Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

A United Nations task force assigned to report on weapons smuggling in Lebanon said Monday that Hizbullah has been bringing arms across the Syrian-Lebanese border. This confirms Israeli allegations that the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group has been steadily rearming with Syrian assistance and Lebanese collusion.

It was only a matter of time until all those Iranian proxies surrounding Israel started working together. Here’s hoping that whoever the next Prime Minister is handles this better than Olmert.

Syria willing to cut Iran ties for peace with Israel
By Jerusalem Post Staff Writer

A peace agreement with Syria is within reach, according to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s envoys to talks with Syria, who returned from another round of indirect negotiations in Turkey and were quoted in a Ma’ariv report Friday.

Maybe I’m just too much of a skeptic, but I don’t trust this. I truly expect them to back out of these talks when Olmert is gone, siting some sort of issue with his replacement. That way, Syria looks willing to negotiate when they’ve actually done nothing.

Israel, Syria holding high-level talks

February 21, 2008 by Justin View Comments

By Aaron Klein

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s government has been holding high-level talks with Syria regarding renewing negotiations over an Israeli retreat from the strategic Golan Heights, WND has learned.

The talks continued this week despite the assassination in Syria last week of Hezbollah arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyah. Most Arab countries, including Syria, charged Israel was behind the top terrorist’s elimination.
