I’m no conspiracy theorist, but I do find myself wondering why such a big deal is being made of Swine Flu when it’s no more dangerous than the plain ol’ seasonal flu.

So, the economy is a mess because Obama’s cronies decided that home ownership is a right, got the banks to give out a bunch of sub-prime adjustable-rate mortgages, those mortgages were defaulted on, and the debt that was sold from one company to the next is now coming due and companies are crumbling because they need their money.

How would more government have prevented this, when the government caused it?

According to NBC New York, the Vice President’s Office issued the following statement after the interview:

The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving all Americans: That they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways. This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week. . .

My question: Considering that the regular ol’ flu kills annually around 250,000 people worldwide, and 30,000 or so just in the U.S., shouldn’t we always be in a state of panic? Or maybe, just maybe, is the problem that we’re blowing the whole swine flu thing out of proportion at this early stage?

It’s not “press coverage” that bothers President Obama. It’s “cable chatter.”

Basically, he’s griping that the complaints of cable pundits don’t amount to “honest debate,” but are nothing more than “nitpicking.”

I’m not concerned about him being bothered; let’s face it, any public figure is going to get criticism ranging from legitimate debate to the absolute “so-and-so is an idiot” statements of opinion that come from people who just like to espouse their opinions.  It comes with the job.

My bigger concern is where he goes from here.  If his annoyance ends here, excellent.  If he tries to silence the chatter, that’d be one of the worst moves he could make.  I guess I’ll just sit back and watch!

A Pentagon review of conditions at the Guantanamo Bay military prison has concluded that the treatment of detainees meets the requirements of the Geneva Conventions but that prisoners in the highest-security camps should be allowed more religious and social interaction, according to a government official who has read the 85-page document.

So, does this mean Gitmo stays open?  I wouldn’t put money on it.  The liberal view is always going to be that torture is morally wrong, and that these people should be in a normal prison, tying up our legal system, or just sent home (where they can regroup and attack us again).  I expect Obama to stay on that side of the fence, no matter what any study he commissions says.
