An Iranian swimmer pulled out of the Olympic Games men’s 100m breaststroke heats on Saturday, just minutes before he was due to compete against an Israeli rival.

Ah, the politics of sport…

Truthfully, I just don’t grasp this level of hate. It seems to me that if you go through the trouble of training and qualifying for the Olympics, you should leave politics to your country’s leaders and compete. Did he not realize that Israel sends athletes to the Olympics? Why waste the opportunity?
