Israel’s chief rabbinate severed ties with the Vatican on Wednesday to protest a papal decision to reinstate a bishop who publicly denied 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust.

This is a bad move for the Catholic Church, as it opens the door ever-so-slightly for Holocaust denial to creep in.  The chief rabbinate made a wise choice, and let’s hope the state of Israel as a whole follows.

Hamas Holocaust perversion: Jews planned Holocaust to kill handicapped Jews

Jewish leaders planned the Holocaust to kill “disabled and handicapped” Jews to avoid having to care for them, according to a Hamas TV educational program. As much of the world prepared to commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Hamas TV presented its latest sinister twist on Holocaust denial.

The Hamas TV educational program, broadcast last week, taught that the murder of Jews in the Holocaust was a Zionist plot with two goals:

1- To eliminate “disabled and handicapped” Jews by sending them to death camps, so they would not be a burden on the future state of Israel.

2- At the same time, the Holocaust served to make “the Jews seem persecuted” so they could “benefit from international sympathy.”

Amin Dabur, head of the Palestinian “Center for Strategic Research” explained that “the Israeli Holocaust – the whole thing was a joke, and part of the perfect show that [Zionist leader and future Israeli prime minister] Ben Gurion put on.” The “young energetic and able” were sent to Israel, while the handicapped were sent “so there would be a Holocaust.”

While the Holocaust denial in this clip is especially troubling, it’s unfortunately become a standard on news & opinion programs in the Middle East.

The thing that gets me is the accusation that Al Qaeda and the Mossad were working together on 9/11. In order to accept this nonsense, one would have to believe the following:

1) Al Qaeda can set aside it’s antisemitic feeling long enough to work with Israel in attacking a more-hated enemy.

2) Israel would side with organizations that want it wiped off the map in order to attack its closest ally.

Being a filmmaker doesn’t make one an expert on world events. If anything, it makes you an expert on fabricating stories that are more entertaining than real life.

Reuters mistake triggers Israel “Holocaust” libel

A Reuters mistranslation of remarks by Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai this morning has triggered an international news libel against Israel.

Among the news outlets jumping on the bandwagon are those that have previously been accused of deliberately attempting to stir up anti-Semitism through false and inflammatory coverage of Israel.

Twenty-five German professors have signed a manifesto published in the Frankfurter Rundschau calling on Germany to stop giving Israel “preferential treatment,” because, among other reasons, the country “helped” establish Israel by expelling Jews from Germany during the rule of the Third Reich.

Approximately 160,000 Jews who were expelled from Nazi Germany ended up in Mandate-era Palestine and strengthened the Jewish presence here at the expense of the Arab population, they said.

So, does this mean Israel is indebted to the Third Reich for killing several million Jews? Is anyone else not understanding the logic?

When Ellen Goodman likened climate skeptics to holocaust deniers last February, she raised more than a few eyebrows. Yet, hers was not the first reprehensible use of that fetid analogy, nor, unfortunately, would it be the last. In truth, environmentalists’ deplorable trivialization of Hitler’s genocide can be traced as far back as the late 1980′s (by an ambitious senator from Tennessee) and as recently as last month by the scientist considered to be the world’s premiere global warming researcher.

In all seriousness, this is even more proof that we’re far enough removed from the Holocaust for it to happen again, as we’ve lost all concept of the horror and severity of it.

Based on a recommendation from a reader, I recently picked up and read “Denying the Holocaust” by Emory Religious Studies Professor Deborah Lipstadt. Now we have spoken before on the overlap of Holocaust and 9/11 deniers (no, that does not mean every 9/11 truther is an anti-Semite, but they certainly have their representation) but I was struck by the sheer number of similarities between the two movements. This began even from the first page of the preface where the author mentions that a poll showed 22% of Americans believed it was possible the Holocaust never happened. Kind of puts all of those truther polls in perspective.

The similarities do not end there, the deniers of different sorts share so many techniques and logical fallacies that in many ways they are interchangeable but for the specifics of the subject matter.

I’m pretty sure my feelings on both the 9/11 “truth” movement and Holocaust denial have been made clear in previous entries. That being said, it hasn’t escaped me that the two movements seem to be merging together at some level. I find myself curious as to how all of that will play out.
