A diplomatic source in Jerusalem told Ha’aretz on Saturday that lame-duck Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is preparing to guarantee the full surrender of the Golan Heights in exchange for direct talks with Syria’s leadership.
You know, the Golan Heights isn’t just a nice piece of land and popular vacation destination; it’s a necessary possession for Israel to be able to defend itself. Giving it away makes the IDF’s job even harder!
Olmert Ready to Give Away Golan in Exchange for Direct Talks

The Golan Heights are crucial to Israel’s northern defense, so I guess it only makes sense to give them away simply for agreeing to talk.
Olmert is out in September. I only hope he doesn’t cause Israel to self-destruct before then.

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s government has been holding high-level talks with Syria regarding renewing negotiations over an Israeli retreat from the strategic Golan Heights, WND has learned.
The talks continued this week despite the assassination in Syria last week of Hezbollah arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyah. Most Arab countries, including Syria, charged Israel was behind the top terrorist’s elimination.

Condi is so willing to give away Israeli real estate that I’m starting to wonder if I should make a claim on something, as I’m sure she’d give it to me. Maybe a nice town on Lake Kinneret…

LONDON (Reuters) – Syria will not attend a Middle East peace conference set for next month unless the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights are on the agenda, President Bashar al-Assad said in comments broadcast on Monday.“If they don’t talk about the Syrian occupied territory, no, there’s no way for Syria to go there,” Assad told the BBC, referring to the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

I would like to think this means Syria won’t be attending, but it probably means Olmert will consider giving up the Golan.
